The Pushchair Track: Mamas and Papas Nipi

mamas and papas nipi kiwiAs lightweight pushchairs go, the Mamas and Papas Nipi is right up there as one of the best, with it being repeatedly recommended by Which? in its Best Buys.

Weighing in at a featherlight 6.4kg, this is one of the lightest, popular umbrella folds. It used to say that it was suitable from birth but it now says 6 months. I’ve owned it for just over a year as a second stroller so this has been seriously road tested.

It’s got a five position backrest, linked rear wheel brake locks, front swivel wheels, adjustable leg rest, soft ergonmoic handles, decent shopping space, and folds up quite simply although it does have its ‘moments’. It locks into place automatically when folded, although it can sometimes be sensitive if something is left behind in the shopping basket. The seats quite padded, they come in refreshing colours, and they are brilliant for travelling with.

Like many pushchairs, they’re fine on wide stairs but an absolute nightmare on your average step as they catch on the brake. You also have to buy the all weather set separately which I always find a bit strange and it’s a bit of a pain in the wotsits to fit.

They’re £60 at Mamas and Papas in 3 colour choices and it’s £40 for the all weather accessory pack which is the hood, raincover, and a beach type bag. You can get deals on these in department stores or small baby retailer stores as we got ours with the weather pack for £68 from Allders (ours didn’t have a beach bag at the time)! There aren’t a huge amount of places that sell these online but do monitor for deals. These do sell out frequently, so be warned!

Celebrities that push: Charlotte Church has the same one as me in the Oki print which I don’t think they do anymore.

Ideal for: Travelling, a spare pushchair for quick journey’s, or giving to the grandparents when they babysit. My mum panics at the sight of the Quinny Buzz and makes a lot of noise about ‘new fangled pushchairs…’

Bang for your style buck: For what you get and how they look, this is very good bang for your style buck. I love the colour choices and bold graphical prints.

Weight range: Light

Don’t forget that you can see other pushchairs and prams we’ve featured in our new feature The Pushchair Track.
