The Bednest
Sometimes a product is so well designed it takes my breath away. When I saw the Bednest I could have wept as it was exactly what I needed when I had my second child *last* year.
The Bednest is an elegant crib designed for use from birth to around six months. It is a bedside crib which is adjustable to fit alongside any bed with a mattress height between 300mm and 660mm and attaches securely using a strap. It works as a stand alone crib (above) and even folds down to make it easily portable so you can stay away from home without worrying about how changing beds will affect your little one. It comes with a carry case and weighs only 7.5kg. The main body of the Bednest is wood with cotton sides, the cotton sides allow the crib to be open to the bed but also attach at ‘half mast’ to prevent your baby rolling into your bed. I love the curved wood in the design and think it holds its own against far pricier design-led cots.
It comes with its own mattress, sheets and spare parts can be bought from the Bednest shop. If we are lucky enough to have a third baby this is the first thing I am buying.
£199 plus P&P available to order now, delivery from mid-March 2010.

I love this idea, I had to take the side off my cot to achieve the same effect when my two were born. Sleeping like this is wonderful if you are breast feeding and have had a section.
I too am weeping! Genius…..
These is really nice (saw it demonstrated on This Morning a few weeks ago). I would buy this but given I already have 3 girls do not think I will have a use for this, gulp – 4 might be too much. I have family in Maine, USA where this type of cot is very popular.
@ harriet – we thought about that but only just have enough space for a crib by the bed, curses to our pokey house!
@ heather – I hope you are planning to make some custom sheets for it….
@ abby – go on, where’s the harm in a fourth…?
Hey Kat – missed your comment about us making some custom sheets for it. Was revisiting the post as am SERIOUSLY considering it for our June arrival. The measurements are a little bigger all round than the Bugaboo Cameleon’s carry cot so it’ll be no problem to start doing sheets for this gorgeous (and marvellously functional) thing!!! I need to get my hands on one pronto!!!
