Sand and Water Play Tables

April 23, 2010 by · 7 Comments

This afternoon I received a plea via Twitter from a Mama looking for a sand and water play table which wasn’t an eyesore. As there are somethings even I can’t get into 140 characters here is a quick round up of sand pits, sand tables and sand & water tables.

Top left: I’m cheating a little with this one as the plastic fantastic colour shock that is the ELC sand and water table is not the most attractive. The reason it is included is because I think it offers the most play value. With two troughs you can have both sand and water in use at the same time. It comes with shovels, scoops, moulds, wheels and a whole heap of accessories for both sand and water play. It has a cover which doubles as a road for toy cars and it is easy to dismantle for storage. As I type my two are playing happily with theirs! RRP £45 but is on offer at £36 currently.

Top centre: I like the duality of this sand table with one bench from GLTC. It is a nicely sized sand table which has a removable play tray. The cover converts it to a picnic bench or out door play table. While they do have a version with benches on both sides I chose the one bench version as it allows children to use it while standing rather than having to be passive. £128.

Top right: A classic sand pit is great if you have the space for it. One of my friends got this version last year and it is known to pacify her two exuberant toddlers. The clever design has a cover which folds back to create two seats either side of the sand pit. £95.99 from The Outdoor Toy Company.

Bottom left: This is a mega sized sand table which is more like a sand pit on legs that takes up to 150kg of sand. It is made from solid pine and designed to mellow with age. £185 from GLTC.

Bottom centre: I like the design of this one best as it allows the children to see the sand or water from all angles. It has a metal frame and wheels to move it about easily. While it is for both sand and water as it is all one section it’s more like sand or water which is not ideal. £145 from GLTC.

Bottom right: If you have the space why not invest in this safari sand boat. It has a bench at the back, storage in the front, a wheel and best of all a canopy overhead to provide shade. I love the possibilities provided by having your own ship in the garden! £139.99 from The Outdoor Toy Company.

Also it’s well worth having a look at Amazon where you can find a range of sand and water tables and sand pits with covers available from as little as £29.99.

Nice post. We have a picnic bench one and it gets loads of use. I suspect it is going to be a very sandy summer :-)

I have a Butlers sink that I reclaimed from a house renovation and it is the greatest as come 7pm it is filled with ice, beer and wine! I love it!
