I recently wrote about Cheeky Wipes, a washable wipes system that I’d been sent for review and I’ve finally had a chance to try it out.
Why would you want to try out washable wipes? Well a good incentive is saving around £200 a year which is what they believe you’ll spend on the average baby wipes. It’s also kind to the environment and a gentler on your baby’s bum.
What do you get? Each kit which contains:
25 – soft Terry towelling cloth baby wipes, 15 cm x 15 cm
1 – Fresh baby wipes container
1 – Mucky baby wipes container – with mesh bag insert
1 – Fresh baby wipes waterproof out and about travel bag
1 – Mucky baby wipes waterproof out and about travel bag – with mesh bag insert
1 – 10 ml bottle of Lavender & Chamomile Fresh Baby Wipes Essential Oil Blend
1 – 10 ml bottle of Tea Tree & Tea Tree Lemon Mucky Baby Wipes Essential Oil Blend
How do Cheeky Wipes work?
You fill the fresh wipes container with 2 cm of water and a few drops of the fresh wipes essential oil blend and then pop your towelling cloths in and you’re ready to wipe. Fill up the mucky wipes container with 3 cm of water and the mucky essential oil blend and when you’ve wiped your baby’s bum, put the wipes inside the mesh bag insert so that you don’t have to handle them again. Pop them in the washing machine in the bag by loosening the mesh bag a bit and wash on 40 degrees. Don’t wait for them to dry; take out of the washing machine and put into your fresh wipes container.
Setting Up
It’s all very straight forward because it’s very well labelled with a colour code for fresh and messy. The only thing was that I admittedly spent about 20 mins looking for the ruler that the bambino had been messing with because I admit to being a bit anal retentive about measurements and wanted to ensure I didn’t under or over fill it.
In use
The bambino I think thought she was getting a top and tail so she kept trying to get me to wipe her hands and they smelt great afterwards! Oh and her bum did too. I couldn’t really fault the process. It’s a simple but very much needed idea that even as as the time poor, resistant to too much housework woman that moans about too much laundry can’t really fault. It was a bit whiffy when I took out the messy bag but so is her nappy bin when I empty it. They washed well and smelt great too. I did a couple of outings with the travel bags and even for me it was a doddle. But…I have forgotten them at home quite a few times so I’m not converted on the travel front.
Any negatives
It would be great if there was a marker on the tub but it’s not critical.
Price: £29.95. Prices for refills of the oils start from £4.95
Overall: I’ll continue to use Cheeky Wipes although I still need to use other wipes for when she’s at the childminders and I’m not quite converted to using them when I’m out, but that’s not the wipes, that’s my mush brain and disorganisation. But for at home, I think they’re fabulous!
Rating: 5/5

Hi Natalie
These wipes sound great, I like the sound of the mesh bag for the dirty wipes.
I am a part time user of washable wipes myself…started off full time…. but like you couldn’t really get it together “out & about.” In my case often just forgetting in the morning rush of trying to get my 3 kids out the door to take the older 2 to school. I use washable wipes at home and have noticed my daughter rarely gets nappy rash now. You can make up your own mixtures and potions for the solution, using water, almond oil and a couple of drops of lavender oil (loads of “recipes” on-line) and then just shake and store in a tub. (I must admit that I am really lazy and tend to use disposable baby wipes for getting the worst of no2′s off though, but every little helps and I buy disposable wipes a lot less now than before I had the washable ones) The wipes I have are terry towelling on one side and flannelette on the other. I do also like the idea of the different boxes etc. for storage, all sounds very organised and I’m all for that.
I am looking forward to reading your next reviews, I do wish your site had been around when my first child was born, but I am passing on your wisdom to friends with new babies anyway!
best wishes
Abby
Hi Natalie,
It’s Helen here from Cheeky Wipes – I’m really glad that you liked the wipes and they worked well for you. We’re just in the middle of finalising the spec for the next production run of Cheeky Wipes and I’m asking the manufacturer about whether we can have a ‘fill level’ indicator on the inside of the boxes, so thanks for the feedback!
Like yourself I struggle to get out the door remembering all the bits and pieces I need for an outing (and why is it that the phone always rings on the occasions when I have actually left myself enough time to get somewhere promptly?) but when I remember to leave the bags back beside the nappies I usually manager to pick up both at the same time.
Also – top tip for those of you who use reusable nappies is that if you’re only going to be out for one nappy change, you can fit a mucky nappy into the mucky wipes bag, which saves on what you have to carry around.
As a ‘Thank you’ to Bambino Goodies users, I’d like to offer free postage and packing worth £4 – £6.95 on any orders over £29.95 placed between now and then end of October. Just enter the coupon code ‘bambinogoodies’ to take advantage of this order.
Thanks once again for your feedback and the review!
Helen
Hi Abby, thanks for sharing your experience. There are some great tips in there and I shall check out these ‘recipes’. It’s good to know I’m not the only one who struggles with the out and about wipes thing. And you’re right – saving is saving! Thanks also for mentioning the site to your friends – very appreciated
Thanks Helen for your generous offer. We’ll update the other post and our discount codes page. Re the out and about, I will try harder!
Hi,
I met Helen at the BPA show, we swapped products and I haven’t looked back with my Cheeky Wipes. I use disposable nappies and have always found washing and reusing very difficult as i have a full packed life with my little one and new business. Cheeky Wipes seem to just fit in with my lifestyle. My childminders don’t use them because i’m so protective that they’re washed and ready for ME to use. I even use them when I’m out and about. I did find at first that they clean wipes leaked a little but I think I was over filling the tub and they were too wet so a ‘fill level’ indicator would be great. At the moment I just give them a squeeze before I put them into my out and about bag.
I didn’t realise before using Cheeky Wipes that my little boy was allergic to baby wipes on his face and he had a redness all the time where I kept wiping his face with wet wipes, since using Cheeky Wipes he no longer has that redness around his face.
I’m a big fan, thank you Helen for introducing them to me and all the best.
Amanda.
I bought these at the baby show in Manchester on Friday and i LOVE them. they are as easy to use if not easier them disposables, they don’t come out in a grerat handful, they don’t dry out and they smell lovely, I also know that whats going on my baby skin which is good. I also have a three yeaar old who gets filthy and have used them on him too.
I have used them on poo and they are fab as they don’t smear at all so i use one or two versus about 20 with disposables.
I have been out with them Saturday and Sunday and did not have a problem with them at all, i have kept a set in my change bag for the last three days and they are still moist so yay. They also wash very well even on a 30 wash and i have had no staining.
I can’t reccommend them highly enough xxx
My gosh – they sound so good I’m going to have to invest in some for the new baby!
