Nursery Style: Create a feature wall with retro wallpaper

I’m a big fan of feature walls and we have a couple dotted around the house, with one in the bambino’s bedroom. Wallpapering the entire room can make it all feel a bit busy and closed in but a feature wall opens up the room and creates the illusion of space. As usual, I have been perusing the wonderful archives of Living Etc and they’ve provided the inspiration for this post.

To get the look:

The wallpaper is from Cath Kidston who also do other retro wallpapers if you’re not of the boating kind. They come in 10m rolls and have a wipeable finish. £22 from Cath Kidston.

If you want to add in some of the other touches from the room, I found a very similar coat stand at Furniture in Fashion reduced from £49.95 to £29.95. This is also the type of thing, if you’re of the thrifty/patient/bargain hunter sort that you may find at your charity shop, local car boot sale, or local furniture store.

I didn’t manage to track down something very similar to the bedside cabinet although…I did find the sexier silver version at The Holding Company although it will set you back £135 making you tempted to put it in your own room… I reckon trawling a few smaller furniture stores, auction houses, or even charity furniture stores could turn up a steal.

BabyGeek – It took me a moment to realise what you were talking about! Hush! I told you the previous owner had decidedly iffy tastes. He thought he was an artiste, me thinks he needs to stay away from creativity…

Henry – I am a big Designers Guild Fan. I’m leaning on a few of your rather big pillows and cushions right now :-) I will certainly check out your kids range.

James – Thanks for the tip off. We do love wall stickers!
