Make Your Own: Bird Mobile

The second installment in our Make Your Own series brings you two super hot tutorials for bird mobiles. We love birds in the nursery and by making your own mobile you can guarantee that the mobile hanging in your bambino’s nursery is an original.First up is the Summer Tweets Mobile from The Red Thread (above). This tutorial uses papier mache to create the birds which are hung with fabric covered balls inside hoops. This is an easy project to do in stages and definitely one that an older child can help with. I love the colour combinations used here and as the pieces needed are small it is perfect for using your scraps.

I have had this second tutorial bookmarked for over a year now and I really have to get around to making it! Spool Sewing created this simple bird pattern which can be used to create a mini flock. Once you have amassed your birds simply find some sturdy twigs, eye-hooks and string to transform it into a super stylish mobile. As this is a collection of small projects it would make a lovely collaborative gift from a group of friends for a new baby.
