Get the look: Use a feature shelf in your baby nursery or childs bedroom

Feature Shelf room from living ETcNatalie writes…

I’m a huge Living Etc fan and I’ve been wondering for ages whether they have baby and childrens room ideas, and lo and behold I find a gallery full! So I will have to endeavor to scour the net to find my suggestions to match the look.

A feature shelf not only acts as storage but is a great way of accessorising the room and creating a sort of shabby let-me- show-off-some-of-my-favourite things area.

To get a similar look,

Scroll Shelf and Coat Hooks Ideal Moments have a selection of coat hooks starting from £17.85. The one pictured (right) is the Scroll Shelf and Coat Hooks for £45.30.

Urchin also have a wooden wall shelf which comes in both natural (£29.99) or in a white wash (£24.99).

The Wood Letters Company do a lot of styles from plain to patterned starting from around £4.99 for a plain letter. If you want the letter to have a bit of standout on the shelf, you should definitely choose a coloured letter. Or spray it up yourself.

For photo frames, I have a thing about Paperchase (they have a limited amount of their store online) and Zara Home, who by the way, always have good reductions on frames in their sale. Just don’t buy online as they have a £19 delivery charge…unless you spend £150…

MINI WORLD GLOBE

Use etsy to find an unusual picture to decorate the shelf or make your own.

The little knick-knacks on the shelf can easily be recreated in your own taste, so you could get a piece of fabric like the gingham and fill it up with something to weight it and tie a bit of ribbon around it. If you’re going to use a hanger, use a decent one, not a crappy one from the dry cleaners!

You can buy globes from a multitude of places but my two favourite globes ever are from The Conran Shop. I wrote about their Giant World Globe with 180 motifs a few months ago but if the thought of shelling out £255 makes your heart seize up, never fear, because they also have a Mini World Globe with 20 motiifs for £45 which I featured in the same post.

Sac A GouterThe perfect place for shabby chic and eclectic accessories is the divine Lapin and Me. It’s like a paradise of kitsch and cool. The bag pictured is Sac a Gouter and it’s a retro print with a vintage doll having a cuppa that’s handmade from cotton. £16
