The BG Christmas Gift Guide 2013: 1-2

Children of this age are constantly busy – I should know as I have one! Activity toys such as shape sorters, bead mazes and hammer benches will be popular, as will stackers and simple wooden puzzles. Pretend play also starts to kick in around this time, so dolls, vehicles and small world items are also a winner. If you’re feeling brave/buying for someone else’s children (!), then musical instruments and chunky crayons will go down a storm.

Brio Ride-On Dachshund, £79.99, Spotty Green Frog.  A brilliant take on the iconic pull-along.

Beau Loves sweatshirt, £30, Archie’s Boutique. Yellow + owl = must buy.

Wooden stacking houses, £43.95, Myriad. The ideal size for small hands, these would also be great as decoration.

Bird of Paradise cape, £35, The Button Tree. Lovely felt cape with ribbon fastenings at neck and wrists.

Playon crayons, £10.95, Hop! Easy to grip and difficult to break – the perfect first crayon.

Djeco Mini Farm, £21.99, Daisy Daisy. Extremely portable with five sweet little animals.

Fairtrade cotton baking set, £23, Weaving Hope. In case you don’t want to let your toddler loose on real utensils.

Cotton t-shirt hippo, £12.95, Muji. Super-soft friend for small people.

Natures Purest World Family Pappa, £13.99, Olive Loves Alfie. An ethical, eco-friendly bearded hipster doll.

Melissa & Doug musical instrument set, £18.95, The Wooden Toy Shop. A tambourine, bell, shaker and castanets disguised as sea creatures.

P’Kolino wooden bug puzzle, £10.50, Gander Kids. Little ones will enjoy mixing up the pieces to create unusual bugs.

Circus Tent, £250, Lilac Coast. Love the stripes and the clock showing performance times.

Marimekko stacking blocks, £62, SCP. These have to be the most covetable blocks in the world.

B Toys Rain Rush, £16, Born. Beautiful rain maker with coloured wooden marbles to roll and shake.

Discoveroo Hammer Toy, £14.99, Babipur. Whack the top ball with the birdie hammer and see the bottom one roll out – hours of entertainment.

Bajo wooden horses, £25, Habitat. Pull along to see the horses gallop in turn.

En Gry & Sif bee bag, £29.50, Sisters Guild. This little hive is crying out to be filled with tiny treasures.

Plan Toys My First Camera, £11.50, The Toadstool. Made from eco wood with a kaleidoscope lens.

Kid O Tip Truck, £14.50, Toyella. Another classic design from Kid O in PVC, BPA and Phthalate-free plastic.

SkipHop bead maze, £27.95, Peanut & Pip. A lovely woodland twist on the perennial favourite.
