timbuktu magazine the 1st kids mag for the ipad

A few nights ago, I should have been reading The Girl Who Played With Fire but I was actually thoroughly enjoying the first kids magazine specifically designed for the iPad, Timbuktu. With a remit to deliver news and stories for children in an engaging, imaginative fashion, the Italian publisher delivers in spades.

Featuring bold graphics and a clever interactive design, I loved the fascinating feature on the census in India and the kids loved “Into The Wild: Conversations With Odd Animals Living In Extremely Cold Environments” which also plays animal sounds. Each individual section navigates downwards and probably its only flaw is that there’s no easy way to navigate back to the index page.

The magazine is imaginative, clever, and effortlessly works in news without making it feel like news. There isn’t a TV character in sight either. Definitely one that the whole family will enjoy and it’s free – yay!
