Ten Hot New Children’s Products from Ikea

I hit the Ikea catalogue with the same glee I approached the toy section of catalogues in my childhood. We’re on the hunt for some new storage and I couldn’t help but fold down half a dozen corners in my excitement. It’s been quite a while since I last checked out their selections and it looks like some hot new products have been added to their range this year.

First up is an addition to their range of affordable painted cots. The latest is black and although it kind of reminds me of the Child Catcher’s cage I am liking it as a chic nursery possibility. Sundvik Cot £90.

Lots of juicy new storage possibilities. Top left is the PS 2012 Side Table pictured with its three different tops. It may not look like a children’s item but it was styled as an art storage and creation station in the catalogue and would be great for children beyond the drawing-on-everything stage. £30 but unclear about the top with bowls – may be added at a later date.

On the right we have two more items from the PS 2012 range – an armchair and storage table priced at £14 and £13 respectively. They’re colourful and suitable from 18 months. I like the addition of storage to the table although it’s not one that’s going to allow a child to sit at a chair as they grow older.

By far my favourite is the bright yellow storage bench (pictured bottom left). Where do I start? Love the colour, love the shape and double love the keyhole. I can see this working well in children’s spaces or as a hall bench keeping the clutter out of sight. £50.

I’m a fan of flooring for fun and these two rugs provide a great backdrop for the imagination. Lillabo (left) is a play mat priced at £10 while Vandring Spar (right) is a rug priced at £18.

The Tidny fabric has met split. I love the design and the idea of colouring your own fabric is fun. BUT it just wouldn’t work with my children as I’ve a tough enough time encouraging them to keep pens off the furniture as it is! Still at £7/metre it’s another fab decor fabric in their highly affordable range.

The Ikea Kalas range is a favourite and we use ours every day. It has had an update with the shapes redesigned to be more meal-friendly. Being polypropylene there are none of the nasties to worry about and at 90p for each set of six bowls, plates, cups or cutlery it really is a super budget option.

Finally I am loving, loving, the Urban Junior Chair which comes in either green or white. I often feel there is a big gap between highchairs and regular dining chairs and Ikea satisfy this with both the Urban and Inglof chairs. At just £30 and with it’s sleek lines the Urban has it for me.
