We have a serious hankering for all things Olli Ella, designers of the most fabulous British nursing chairs we ever did see. Totally bucking the ‘how mundane can we get with one dreary looking nursing chair’ trend, the Olli Ella offerings are deliciously contemporary and designed to last way beyond the booby years taking pride of place not just in nursery’s and playrooms, but easily fabulous enough for a living room.

Chloe Brookman, one half of the sister duo, has shared her 16 month old son Tennyson’s playroom with us, instantly triggering room (and dog) envy. Spacious, airy, and enhanced with the backdrop of a very busy looking back garden, Chloe has treated the room like a blank white canvas and injected interest with statement decor with toys, artwork, and furniture in rich, bright colours. And you can breathe out – the covering of the nursing chair is stain resistant microsuede!

How would you describe the space?

Tennyson’s playroom is the hub of the house. Nestled between the kitchen and the living room, the playroom is where we all like to hang out (dogs included!)

Did you have a set plan or has it evolved?

The playroom has definitely evolved – it has grown with Tennyson. The rest of our home is quite considered but we really wanted Tennyson’s room to reflect the wonderful chaos of being a toddler.

Have you enjoyed decorating?

Absolutely. I’m a bit of a toy nut and so finding interesting and retro toys to decorate the room is a great excuse for a little splurge.

Have you got any future plans for the space?

As soon as Tennyson starts expressing an interest in arts & crafts we want to put in a designated messy play area for him – easels, paint, etc. I should start looking into some sort of vinyl flooring I suppose, or else our wooden floors will buckle in protest!

Spill! Where did you buy the key pieces from?

The nursery chair is by Olli Ella (, the orange Pouf we bought from a souk in Marrakech, Morocco. The art on the walls is from my art gallery (Broad Gallery). The rest of the room is dotted with toys from all over – my favourite toy shops being Peanut & Pip and After Noah. The wall stickers are by Wee Gallery

Any tips for decorating and sourcing?

I love reading blogs that have a focus on design such as Design Sponge, Apartment Therapy, Decor8, and Domino. If you don’t have time to scour street markets and boutiques, is a fantastic site for inspiration.

If you live in London and would like to see Olli Ella nursing chairs in the flesh, they have a pop up shop at the Broad Gallery, 406 St John Street, London EC1V 4NJ ( open Monday – Friday 11 – 6, Saturday 11 – 5), where you could also nab something similar to the fabulous ostrich artwork. Long time readers will know that we are majorly obsessed with artwork so as well as checking out all of our previous finds, also check out our post on where to buy artwork for children’s spaces (we’ll be doing a mega update on it soon). If anyone is wondering where to get the bonkers looking yellow horse, it’s the Rody Jumping Horse.

[…] Quick description of your home: A warm Georgian house that is outfitted with too many toys, not enough high heels, and plenty of love. Our style has completely changed since having a baby – we have happily ditched our minimalist approach to decor and embraced the wonderful chaos that comes with having a toddler – check out our tour of Tennyson’s playroom.
