Review: Thrupenny Bits Breastfeeding Cushion
Kat writes…
I recently wrote about Thrupenny Bits potable breastfeeding cushions and was thrilled to be given the opportunity to try one for myself.
The Testers: I tested this with BabyGeek and a Mama who has recently given birth to her second child and has previously used a traditional V-shaped cushion.
Appearance: They look good in the pictures but the pictures don’t do them justice. We tried the Ultimate Pink Flock (pictured above left) and I think I might have squealed when I pulled it out of the box. The fabric is sumptuous; fine soft needle cord on one side and thick tactile flock on the other. It is beautifully sewn and has contrasting zips and is fully lined. The most important thing about its appearance is that it doesn’t look in the slightest like a breastfeeding cushion. I received countless compliments on my new bag and lots of surprise when I revealed its true purpose.

Set up: Super easy: tie it on or just sit it on your lap and then move the baby into a comfortable position. To convert it to a bag simply remove the inner sack and you have yourself a good sized Mama bag.
In use: We both thought it was brilliant. It may be portable but is also perfect for everyday use. A good breastfeeding cushion makes all the difference to your experience, especially in the early days. Thrupenny Bits takes the weight of your baby off your shoulders and back and helps you to position your baby in a comfortably. You can tie the straps around your waist to keep it in place (if your bambino is as wriggly as BabyGeek this is so useful). My co-tester was amazed at the difference it made to her upper back which was getting sore from hunching. She also said that her son seemed more relaxed when he fed which has made he life easier.
Any negatives: Only that we don’t have one in every colour!
Price: Thrupenny Bits start at £40 and go to £55. Considering the long life and quality I think this is very reasonable and would not hesitate to buy one.
Overall: A beautifully made bag which is also a highly portable breastfeeding cushion. If you have read my profile you will see I talk about a breastfeeding cushion as my ‘baby product I couldn’t survive without’. Well, this fabulous creation has replaced that in my heart - it is funky, fabulous and perfectly functional.
Verdict: 5/5 no questions asked.
All Available at Thrupenny Bits.

[...] Thrupenny Bits Breastfeeding Cushion - I love this cushion and have one myself, and although I no longer need it as my son is too big to fit on it now, I still get plenty of use from it. I run a breastfeeding drop in group and I take it along with me every week, I just sling it over the handlebars of my pushchair or over my shoulder and go. It is really firm, so it is great for helping a first time breastfeeding mum to get her baby in the right position and because it is filled with beads it really supports baby, so mum can breastfeed hands free. I have no worries about using it time and time again at the group because it is made of such thick and high quality fabric. This means the cover washes like a dream and looks good as new after every wash. The bead sack can also be removed from the cover and the cover can be used as a bag on its own. Prices start from £30 for the Cute Corduroy range, available in pink, red and blue, and up to £55 for the Ultimate range.
