Review: Tomy Walkabout Classic Advance

BabyGeek writes….When we realised the strange buzzing sound was coming from our ancient second (or third) hand baby monitor I decided it was time to find a new one.

Tomy Walkabout Classic AdvanceThe Testers: Family Geek.

Appearance:You won’t be seeing it in Bang & Olufsen but as monitors go it looks nice. I like the white and blue combination and the distinctive Tomy round face.

Instructions: Very easy to follow.

Set up: Easy peasy! As you’d expect, one end by the baby and one end by you both switched on.

In use: The monitor transmits on four channels and you tune your end in to the best one. The monitor is so sensitive that we are able to hear the baby breathing from two houses away. The lights on the front alert you to noise if you have it on mute or are vacuuming (hem hem). There is even a button you can press to offer your other half helpful advice when they are getting the baby to sleep.

Any negatives: I bought this monitor because my neighbour has the same one and has found it to work very well. Sadly for both of us, when they were switched on at the same time we got terrible feedback and I could hear what was happening on their monitor. The product information suggests the channels are scrambled to avoid this but not for us. As there was no solution ours went back and I am on the look out for another monitor from a different brand.

Price: £38.97 from Kiddicare.

Buy It Logo for Bambino GoodiesOverall: 5/5 (2/5 if your neighbours have got one)

Verdict: A great basic monitor which should fulfil the needs of most households.
