Review: Bambino Merino Sleeping Bag

January 6, 2009 by Estelle · 2 Comments

Bambino Merino sleeping bagEstelle writes…I have coveted these gorgeous Bambino Merino sleeping bags for some time, so was delighted to get my hands on one to review. The winner of a Practical Parenting Best Buy Award, and made from 100% New Zealand merino wool and 100% cotton, these are certainly the luxurious option.

The concept:

Without a synthetic fibre in sight, the breathable natural fibres regulate your baby’s body temperature, so there’s no need to purchase bags with different TOG ratings. Suitable for all year round, they can be used from 3 months to 2 years and have poppers under the arms to adjust the fit for younger babies.  There are 4 colours colours to choose from, and each bag comes beautifully presented in it’s own matching travel bag.

In use:

The first thing I noticed when I examined the sleeping bag, was how soft and flexible it was. My little one looked comfortable as soon as it was put on. The material also has a little give in it, so his movement seemed to be less restricted than in his synthetic sleeping bag.

I was also much less concerned about him overheating, and it was a relief not to have to worry about which TOG rating to use. This was a blessing, especially when staying overnight with relatives during the Christmas period, as their houses were kept at much higher temperatures than our own.

There’s no need to worry about high maintenance care instructions either. The sleeping bag is machine washable and can be tumble dried on a low setting, which I’ve done several times and it’s come out like new.

Any negatives?: No

Value for money:

I think these sleeping bags represent outstanding value for money. At £49.95 each, they are more expensive than their conventional synthetic rivals. However, when you consider one size fits from 3-24 months, and there’s no need to buy separate bags with different tog ratings, they are a considerably more cost effective buy.

Overall:

I wish I had known about Bambino Merino sleeping bags before I invested in synthetic ones.  They would make a lovely gift for a new baby and you could splash out on one of the cute matching hats, to make the present extra special. There are also sleepsuits, pyjamas and bodysuits in the range, so you can dress your little one from head to foot in merino should you desire!

  1. [...] The sleeping bags (sized 3-24 months) are made from pure merino wool and 100% cotton and come in four colours, and are easy care so they wash really well and can go in the tumble dryer plus its natural elasticity means that they stretch with the wearer and return back to their natural shape.
