Petit Pois- Orange and Lemon cakes

As someone that’s developed a wheat intolerance, I’m beating a hasty path into Selfridges for these Petit Pois Cakes that are gluten and lactose free and feature vegetable gratings. The concept of two friends who met in Paris over a shared love of food and a desire to wow with low calorie delights (Harry is from the programme Cook Yourself Thin and has just launched The Skinny French Kitchen), they use ingredients like courgette, beetroot, and pumpkin which replace the butter.

Apparently the veggies can’t be tasted (a friend says they’re “delish” and she’s a cake fiend), they’re sold in boxes of complimenting pairs – Chocolate & Vanilla and Lemon & Orange – with a marzipan pea topping the icing. They’ve launched in Selfridges (London, Birmingham, and Manchester) with plans to be in supermarkets over the coming months – £5 for a box of two.
