Nursery Tour: Liberty’s Hubba Bubba & Peony Inspired Girls Room
One of our contributors, Twickenham based Becky who is based in Twickenham, west London, has recently decided to change career path and has gone from legal eagle to embarking on an interior design course. She has shared pictures of her three year old daughter Liberty’s bedroom which is a mix of classic, often British detailing combined with contemporary pieces.
Becky explains, When I found out that I was having a girl, my nesting instinct went into overdrive as I planned my baby girl’s nursery. Of course the room had to be pink, but I did not want a baby or pale pink. It had to be vibrant, bright and not too sickly sweet.
My inspiration for the colour was Hubba Bubba bubblegum and my favourite flowers, peonies. I found the perfect shade by Designers Guild (funnily enough called Peony) and because the colour was bright I decided to paint one feature wall in that colour and the remaining walls in white (Marble I by the Paint and Paper Library).
The striped curtains, are also by Designers Guild and were made to order. I went for a basic stripe so that they would hopefully last until Liberty becomes more discerning taste wise and decides that she no longer wants pink curtains!
I love the idea of wall stickers as a variation on wallpaper and think that they are a perfect way to customise walls in a child’s room. I found these wall stickers made out of vintage wall paper by designer Inke Heiland at Supernice. I think that they contrast really well with the peony paint. The floorboards are painted in Fired Earth white floor paint.
Furniture wise, the toddler bed is from Ikea (the Hensvik, £67.74) and the wardrobe, Malibu Cabinet (not pictured) and toy box are all from Purves & Purves. Liberty’s mini kitchen was bought by the grandparents from Ebay and she’s also got the pigeon wall light by Ed Carpenter was purchased from Liberty. The orange chairs are Alma Chairs by Magis, £26.56 at Nest.
