National Breastfeeding Awareness Week – Our favourite breastfeeding buys

thrupenny bits breastfeeding pillowIn honour of National Breastfeeding Awareness Week, which is from May 10th-16th, here is a roundup of our favourite breastfeeding gear:

When it comes to breastfeeding pillows, we’ve certainly got our favourites, with the award winning Dream Genii support pillow (I use it in bed for nighttime feeds), plus the Thrupenny Bits breastfeeding cushion,(pictured – I’m using one at my desk as I type this plus Kats also a fan) and the Formfix which Lucy uses being our firm favourites.

Kat did a brilliant guide to Medela breast pumps last year and I reviewed their ‘swing’ breast pump too. We also hear really great feedback from mum friends about Dr Brown’s Natural Flow manual breast pump.

There are a whole host of accessories out there of which only you can decide what’s ‘essential’ but products like the Mamascarf breastfeeding scarf help you cover up when you’re out and about, booby tubes can help relieve booby aches and help heal infection or mastitis, celebrity favourite Aden & Anais muslin swaddling blankets take muslins to a whole new level, and nursing necklaces help you remember which breast you fed from last. We also have a handy guide to 10 breastfeeding essentials for under £30, which was put together by Holly who used to contribute over at BBG and helped local mums with breastfeeding support.

I don’t own any breastfeeding specific clothing but one of our previous contributors Estelle highly recommends Frugi’s nursing tops.

Enjoy!

I find the nursing necklaces a must have! Otherwise my long hair is getting pulled out at the roots. They’re good for babies in a carrier too.
