I am a huge Magis fan and I’ve raved about our Magis puppy which lives in the hall (or sometimes at the bottom of the stairs) and the bambino sometimes sits on it or roughs it up by chucking it all over the place… plus I am still lusting over their El Baúl Trunk Container.

Designed by Javier Mariscal, who also designed Cobi, the mascot for the ’92 Olympics in Barcelona, the Magis Ladrillos Shelving System uses some a fun and quirky range of characters to prop up the shelves. The characters (shelf supports) are made from polyethylene and the shelves are in HPL laminate white with black edges and I think (especially with the price) it really could go in any room of a contemporary home.

The pricing is certainly not for the faint hearted – Ikea they ain’t! – with pack of 3 shelves costing £525 and a pack of 2 shelf supports (the characters) costing between £63 to £88 each at the very fabulous Nest. But the Ikea thing got me thinking and if you wanted to mix cheap and cheerful with designer, you could in theory buy one of their modular shelving systems and then buy the characters….
