Rain Starts Play
Eco, ethical, largely British – what’s not to love about Malvern-based shop Rain Starts Play (great name too). Fashion is represented by BG faves Tootsa MacGinty, Grubbies and Pili Pala, and the toy selection is fantastic – British brands from the traditional (Gibsons has been making puzzles and games since 1919) to the modern (the crazy world of Corby Tindersticks) and even traditional modern (Hop & Peck’s new twists on old-fashioned playthings).
My best buy is Camphill Products’ joyously colourful Box of Bricks, £19.99, top. Love the box design and that they’re made from local reclaimed timber by people with special needs in Yorkshire. A brilliant gift with impeccable credentials. I’m also a big fan of Pearl Mason Designs’ felt finger puppets, £8 per set, above. Lots of themes to choose from – pirates, farm, nursery rhymes, London and the delightful British birds.
