Great Ikea Hack: Make your own magnetic storage board Uten Silo style

Uten Silo Wall Organizer ikea magnetic board

I’m a big fan of the Uten Silo wall organiser (left, and featured on Nest Goodies a while back) which is a design classic from 1969/1970 designed by Dorothee Becker produced by the Vitra Design Museum, but it’s a crying shame that it’s £164!

Over at the very cool Minor Details blog, Jennifer has come up with a great hack (pictured right), using Ikea’s BITS magnetic board (£5.86) and a pieces from their SPONTAN collection such as their 4 piece container and hook set (£3.42), plus you can even add a newspaper rack (£6.84). Once you’ve brought your pieces, add a single coat of high gloss spray paint (I’d go for a bright colour although she has gone for white) and you’ve got an organiser for all those bits and bobs that your toddler accumulates, and probably for under £20! Of course, you could spend a bit of time searching for steel storage pieces in a variety of shapes (charity shops, or a hunt around online) if you really want to go the whole hog with the look.

Thanks to Kat for the tip off!
