Kids Playroom from Living Etc April 2007

Elli writes… Living Etc magazine is a permanent fixture on our coffee table at the moment. We’re at the fantasizing stage of doing up our kitchen where we find lots of things we love but can’t afford and then spend months scaling back our ideas… But it’s a fun way to pass the time! Enough about my kitchen; Living Etc also does kids. How’s this for a peaceful but creative look for a playroom?

For a similar look…

wingreen cowboy wigwamwigwam in cowboy print

The wigwam featured in the Living Etc shot is from Win Green, but it’s no longer stocked. Instead, there is a more colourful cowboy wigwam (left) embroidered with cactus – although you may want to check your little one is a fan first to help you justify the £195 price tag. Kids Playroom stock a more wallet-friendly wigwam in cowboy print (right) for £55.90. For other play house ideas, check out our hot list of play houses.

Large Prize Hen Mobile

The prize hen mobiles are designed in Denmark and come in a range of sizes. I found the large one at Danish Design in green/orange for £27.50 with other colours available in a smaller size for £6.95. Also check out other mobiles we’ve featured.

plan toys victorian dolls house

For a similar dolls house in neutral wood, the Victorian Dolls House by Plan Toys is built to last – a future heirloom perhaps – and includes sash windows which slide open and shut. It’s also got additional attic space that can be made into any room your toddler chooses. Made from replenishable rubberwood and suitable for age three onwards. £91.91 Also try the Pintoy Marlborough Dolls House which has a basement that can be added on.

Hansel Toddler TableOffi-Me Chair

The Offi Look-Me Kids chair (right) is in-keeping with the low-backed organic silhouette of the chair in Living Etc. Even with 20% off at Nest, it’s still in the ‘very special occasion’ price bracket at £172.66 but looks like a contemporary classic in the making. I can see the chair being paired quite handsomely with the elegant Hansel Toddler Table, £60.

Alternatively, the eye-catching bloom otto table and chairs (left) comes as a set, guaranteeing a perfect match. It’s available from Two Left Feet for – hold your breath – £234.89. But for style without busting your budget, it’s hard to beat this Swedish-designed Svan Children’s Table and Chairs set (right) available from Mothercare. A table, two chairs and an Alvar Aalto style stool, all yours for £89.99 and wipe-clean to boot. A definite hot buy!
