Father’s Day Gift Ideas
It’s finally registering that it’s Father’s Day next Sunday and that I need to organise a gift. The first year we got the boyf a Philips digital photo frame, last year we got him Guitar Hero. Here are some ideas, if like me, you’re still deciding…

Trainers
Ideal for dads who are into casual cool, there are a hell of a lot of very cool trainers out at the moment. The boyf lives in trainers, even for work, so this is our likely buy. Whatever their style, from loud and retro, to down low and smart, head to places like ASOS and Urban Outfitters for your trainer fix. Also try Zara which has got some veeeery cool buys that are easy on the wallet.

Anglepoise Fifty Desk Lamp
Ideal for design fans and those that work from home, this is a quirky, injection-moulded polycarbonate version of the design classic. Fixed at 50 degrees, the clever design floods the wall behind it with normal light and projects the colour of the desk lamp through the plastic body. £39.50 Purves

Guitar Hero
Ideal for big, overgrown kids, this is one of the best gifts we’ve bought for the boyf! Plenty of other dads have had a go and no matter how much they poo poo the idea of it, it’s only a matter of minutes before they become wannabe rockstars hurling themselves around our sitting room. Available for the Wii, Xbox, and PS3 on its own or in various bundles with the console. From around £29.99 Amazon.

Cardboard Speakers from Muji
Ideal for the dad who’s planning to spend the summer in the park, this is also a cool little buy for gadget lovers. These collapsible, lightweight cardboard speakers plug into the headphone socket of their music player, and will certainly reduce the bulk in your picnic bag. £19.95
Muji

Shave Now Shaving Gel by Green People
Ideal for eco-conscious dads, this has got aloe vera, grapefruit and geranium, and is even suitable for those prone to skin conditions like eczema. There’s no nasties, it’s suitable for vegans and vegetarians, and as it’s for wet shaving, you can nick it from him and use it shave your legs… £9.30
Nigel’s Eco Store. There are other items in the range that start from £2.99 and you can also get a gift set.
I also checked around to see what mates and Twitter folk are getting…
Kat suggests slippers. Kat got hers in House of Fraser and I also recommend Muji for simple, stylish, and wallet friendly pairs and you could treat yourself to the linen ballet slippers I featured earlier.
A ring/email around had wide varying suggestions of a Nintendo DSI, books/vouchers, artwork featuring handprints like what you can get at
Milly Bee, t-shirts, sunglasses, surprise festival tickets, “a day of peace and quiet” to name but a few…
@BabyBean suggests getting an Ergo baby carrier (I f
eatured this last year) and she’s currently offering 10% off the Ergo range at
Baby Bean. £85.50
@coulsonmacleod suggested their own
typography art which has been inspired by cult bands like The Smiths and Stone Roses. From £15.
@Caroljs got a plate made with her baby’s footprint.
@PreciousParcels suggested her own
plaques.
