Crafty goodness with Fleecie Dolls

November 5, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Feeling crafty? Love the home-spun, retro look for your nursery? Then you’ll love this book, ‘Fleecie Dolls’ by Fiona Goble. It’s a simple ‘how to’ guide that will have you making your own old-fashioned dolls and toys out of cuddly fleece fabric.

It contains templates and full instructions for making fifteen dolls, including a baby doll, teen doll, mermaid doll, and even a pirate doll if you fancy something a little bit less twee.

If you’re no Martha Stewart then fear not, it solemnly promises that each project requires only ‘simple sewing and embroidery skills’ (and also that they can be made by machine, too). Each project has templates, tools and techniques explained in detail, simple instructions, and photographs of each step.

Let’s face it, even the idea of making dolls for your baby is just oozing with wholesome goodness, quite apart from the pleasing result of owning something totally unique.

Is it too early to mention Christmas? If this has got your creative juices flowing then why not treat yourself to the book as a little pre-Yuletide gift, and then come December you can treat others to the fruits of your labours. If, on the other hand, the idea of breaking out the needles and embroidery thread has got you breaking out in a cold sweat, then why not buy this book as a present for your most artsy friend (the one who bakes her own bread, makes her own cards, and whose children play only with knitted or wooden toys).
