Cool (& Comfy) Mama: 5 of the Best – Wedge Trainers
I love trainers and have increasingly become not only reliant on them for the school run but also on mixing in pairs like purple Nike high tops with smart and dressy pieces for the funk/lazy look. Wedge trainers appeal as I’m a titch at 5ft 3 and if you’re on the lookout for a dressier trainer to distinguish yourself from a sea of Converse and like me can’t stretch to an Isabel Marent pair for £400 (eek!), here’s my shortlist.
Note also that wedge trainers are a sneaky bit of heel when pregnant as well. Most of the pairs I’ve highlighted are ‘concealed wedges’ and all had to look like a trainer – some ‘trainers’ I came across look more like boots.
Nike x Liberty Dunk Sky High Liberty Print Trainers £95 Liberty. There’s not much that the ubiquitous Liberty print doesn’t look good on and the collab with Nike is a match made in heaven. Try ASOS for something a little similar but near half the price.
DENY wedge high top trainers. £45, ASOS. Available in several colourways, this tan leather and suede with contrast laces pair is the budget buy of the lot. Note that if you stalk ASOS (or are signed up to their mailing list), they also do regular discounts. Also try Urban Outfitters Deena & Ozzy Banks Concealed Wedges, £48.
Topshop Aerobic Wedge Heel Trainers, £48. Claire has a pair of these that she practically lives in. Topshop also do another pair where the heel isn’t hidden which also has lots of detail including a side zip, velcro fastening and leather pattern, £75. Also try Office for block colour suede pairs for £75.
Ash Cool Suede Colourblock Pink Strapped Wedge Trainers, Were £189, now £94. There are some other reductions between £87-£113 plus they have lots of full priced pairs £139-£189. This brand is hugely popular with some designs selling out – they feature high quality Italian leather and suede.
Adidas Top Ten Hi Sleek Heel shoes, £82 Adidas. Actually felt slightly swoonish when I spotted these shiny metallic delights which will certainly add a little glamour. I would check in store and at stockists as there are only limited sizes left online.
