Imagine Children’s Festival: 10th-26th February at Southbank Centre

Celebrating children’s literature and performing arts, the Imagine Children’s Festival is back for a fortnight this February with 53 free and paid events for kids of all ages including opera for babies, a musical tour of the animal kingdom with Carnival of the Animals, a craft pavilion, and a 5 minute live performance of an adaption of Oliver Jeffers The Incredible Book Eating Boy featuring puppetry, projection with ten viewings per hour for one child at a time.

Isabella Oliver has long been a goto for luxe maternity wear that’s ideal for work and going out. They’re infamous wrap and ruche pieces are effortlessly flattering. Label Love: Scotch R’belle & Scotch Shrunk

Dutch label Scotch & Soda have been around since the 80s but they’re definitely re-emerging on my radar with their new mini peeps collections, Scotch R’belle for girls and Scotch Shrunk, mini versions from the mens collection. Mini adult clothing is normally synonymous with ‘inappropriate’, but there are no such concerns here – if anything you wonder if Scotch & Soda have been turning kids clothes into big people pieces.

While we still love popping brights and prints here at BG, the shift towards more understated brands in the childrenswear market hasn’t gone unnoticed and I love the relaxed, effortless, hip appeal of Scotch & Soda.

For spring/summer, think chic floral print raincoats, stripes, boho paisley, checks, cargo trousers, Liberty print accessories, well cut tee’s, and scrumptious knits with a slight distressed look. Spring/summer is launching in stores between now and May – check Scotch & Soda’s online store plus they have a stockist list which includes BG favourites Mash n Gravy and Sienna Loves Kai, who incidentally both give good sale if you want to snap up some winter bits.

Hot New Clothing Range from Kitschy Coo

Fresh and fabulous this February, Kitschy Coo has just released a hot new line of clothing. Made from bright and funky Scandi fabrics (which you can also buy separately), the range has launched with pants, tops and the promise of dresses to follow.

With clouds, stars, elephants, hippos and happy mushrooms all against bright backgrounds with contrasting trims you are spoiled for choice. The trousers have ribbed fold-over waistbands which are comfortable to wear especially if your little one has a round tummy. The tops have generous necks and ribbing at the wrists which not only looks amazing but keeps sleeves out of trouble.

Betsy has a couple of pairs of the baby trousers which are hands down here favourite trousers to wear. Comfortable, roomy and snug; they are the perfect clothing for exploring.

Prices are from £17.50 and sizes are from newborn to 7 – 8 years (generous sizing).

Donna Wilson Endangered Species Exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

I’m a huge fan of Scottish designer Donna Wilson who I had the pleasure of meeting earlier this week. Her eccentric style across knitted goodies, homewares, furniture, prints, and accessories (check out the house blanket that Kat featured last week) have become instantly recognisable and earned her the coveted title of Elle Decoration’s Designer of the Year 2010.

Her work is currently on display at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park with her Endangered Species exhibition. Featuring an enchanted garden plus a range of her limited edition work, this is definitely one for ‘big people’ fans. On until 26th February 2012.

Jennie Maizels’ Clothes Plasters are getting an update. The classic designs previously sold in tins will soon be available in the same packaging as the rest of the range. The sets of six will be available from mid February and cost £7.99.

If you loved the tins they are still available to buy in the shop but only while stocks last…

About this time of year everything is slowing down as the last posting dates pass and we all get ready for some serious family time. But this morning I logged on to find news of a long awaited new store and couldn’t wait to share it with you.

Kickcan and Conkers has long been one of my top daily reads with ever more beautiful finds from around the world. For a year or more Deborah, a Yorkshire born Mama living in France, has had plans to open her own store and today is the momentous opening day.

The Kickcan & Conkers Store is a charming collection of both modern and vintage finds. Puzzles, prints, paper goods and toys the selection is adorable and more than a little tempting. I’m already picking out my favourites for gifting next year such as the super stylish baby book or Golo puzzle which can be used to create shapes form the blocks. The stars at night print (pictured below) is making me weak at the knees so please, whatever you do don’t buy it!

What a joy to have such a well curated store open. Definitely one to add to our favourite places to buy vintage for children.

Shipping is being charged at a flat rate of €12 until 15th of January.
