Inspiration: Wardrobe Revival

I am in love with this bright yellow wardrobe. The combination of the old design, fresh colour and retro interior have me smitten.

Get the look:

Old wardrobe: there are a whole host of place you could scout for an nice looking old wardrobe. My top hits would be charity furniture shops (Oxfam & Emaus are both great), the dump, second hand dealers and eBay. For children’s clothing a Gentleman’s Wardrobe works really well – I managed to snag one for 99p on eBay which is in my kitchen.
Brightly coloured matte or eggshell finish paint in your chosen colour. Finely sand the surface before painting for and even finish.
Retro fabric or wallpaper: again hit the second hand sources here. For funky vintage wallpaper there is Retro Villa who are hard to beat.

Apple and Pear Display Shelves

I am in love with these kitschy display shelves. Made from eye popping shades in either red apple or green pear they are a really quirky way for children to display their small treasures.

Available from Candy Stripe Cloud for AUD$45 with shipping around AUD$20 which works out at about £28 and £12 shipping. You can buy direct from their shop or via their Etsy store.

Sebra Bookcase

I love Scandi company Sebra who make a wide range of toys, decor and furniture including our favourite cotbed the Kili.

I am currently lusting after their shelving units. Their asymmetrically arranged shelves come in two designs; the rectangular six shelf version shown above and the square multi-shelf design below. Each unit is made from high finish lacquered MDF and has rounded corners to avoid any mishaps.

We’re big fans of storage here at Bambino Goodies and loving how these make a feature out of prized possessions and books. I can see the square set hanging next to a child’s bed filled with treasures or the rectangular shelves making a statement in the playroom.

Rectangular version available in light blue, raspberry and turquoise for £240 and the square in white for £285 from Nubie.

Hot Off The Press: Bounce n Sleep by Stokke

Norwegian company Stokke is synonymous with beautifully designed products packed full of function and their latest addition, the Bounce n Sleep which combines a bouncer and a daybed is leaping ahead in innovation.

The bouncer can be lifted in and out with the built-in mattress going into a fully flat position for when baby is asleep in the daybed, or upright at 30 degrees for forming the bouncer. The seat can also be put in the upright position inside the daybed so they can see exactly what you’re up to when you’re busying yourself, plus the whole kit is very portable (the bouncer has carry handles and a five point harness) for moving from room to room, plus the daybed can also be used as a travel cot.

Suitable until 12 months for the bouncer and 6 months for the daybed, both feature washable, breathable textiles. Available from around the end of May, RRP Bouncer £169 and Daybed £135.

One of those items that looks so good, you’d contemplate getting knocked up with a third child just to have it…

Kidsen – New Interior Goodies

I’m quite the fan of Kensal Rise based style haven Kidsen who deliver ‘beautiful things for kids’ in spades. Their latest arrivals see their interiors section blossoming with retro style table and clip lamps by Danish design company Waterquest in a fantastic selection of colours that easily transcend children’s spaces, as well as divine, divine retro inspired chairs taking their cue from the fifties and sixties by Swedish designers Heirloom. Handcrafted in oak, walnut, and birch and using only natural materials including Hessian and horsehair and non toxic finishes, they’re sized for 2-7 year olds and start from (cough) £485 plus they also do a changing table and a cot (£295-£299).

P’kolino at Nubie

The Bambino team have long awaited the arrival of P’kolino on UK shores. Founded in 2004 by two Florida based Papas with a passion for design and great children’s products they have long been an object of international desire. The waiting is over and Nubie are now stocking P’kolino online where we can all get our hands on their goodies.

P’kolino are known for their sleek design of children’s furniture and toys not to mention their reasonable pricing. I absolutely love the clothes tree which comes in orange, white and green (top left), I can see it in about four different spots in our home for either coats, dressing up clothes or even in the bedroom. Their little reader chair in orange or purple (bottom left) is made from super light foam yet is sturdy thanks to the wide base. It can be moved from room to room easily to provide a comfy child-sized reading spot.

Currently Nubie have a range of their toys in stock and will be taking delivery of larger items mid-February. On items not yet in stock you can email Nubie to stake your claim on your favourites before they are all snapped up. Prices are from £13.99 – £29 on toys and £69.99 – £79 on furniture with plastic storage boxes (not pictured) at £20.

Tambino bed rail

We’re on the verge of the transition from cot to bed, so I’ve been researching fall-out prevention strategies. One of the funkiest ideas I’ve come across is this bed rail/bookshelf which is meant to encourage children to stay in bed and browse their reading material if they do wake up – so (theoretically) no early hours’ knocks on your bedroom door. Designed in Tel Aviv by Jessica Cohen, Tambino has a range of bed rail options, including a cute Noah’s Ark for soft toys, but this alphabet shelf is definitely my favourite, about £67.85, plus £7.75 p&p to the UK. The funky number stools are definitely worth a look as well.

Hot Buy of the Day: Kuster Nursery Furniture

If you’re in the market for some elegant nursery furniture then this buy could be right up your street. Kuster are designers of contemporary furniture made from sustainable materials. Their bedroom set is not only beautiful but practical as well. The cot bed is designed to last for years and has under bed storage drawers (believe me, you’ll love them) while the chest of drawers has a changer top which can be removed once your child is out of nappies. They come in three finishes, deep rich espresso, pale oak and stripy zebrano.

The regular RRP of the pair is £1,095 but you can get them both for just £790 which includes a free cot bed mattress for a limited period. You can also buy them separately for £399 each down from £599 RRP. Available at Hippins.

Exclusive Preview: Leander Dresser

Leander fans are being spoiled as not only have they released the new bed guard rail but now they have announced the launch of their first dresser. Its design echos the curve appeal of the cot bed and junior bed making it the perfect nursery partner.

It comes in the three Leander finishes of white, whitewash (pictured) and walnut. It measures D74 x W72 x H100.5 cm. The changing pad is included and you can buy the fabric storage boxes in either vanilla or black and even a changing pad towel in vanilla, sand, azur blue or tango red both of which come as a two pack. When it has finished its life in the nursery it transforms into a useful computer desk (as pictured below) and so could see your bundle of joy through to college.

I think this addition to the Leander stable has been a long time coming and I know there are plenty of folks out there who can’t wait to get their hands on one.
