Swoonerama – new Stella McCartney fabulosity

Man, that Stella McCartney woman is good at this kids’ fashion lark. Love, love, loving the new collection for spring/summer. Wild horses? Check. Candy pastels (soooooooo on trend)? Check. Neon cork sandals? Oh, yes, sirree!

I’m loving this floral all-in-one for the littlest fashionistas, £53, the cool Aztec-ish embroidery on this cool cotton dress, £75, and this photographic print t-shirt, £36. A great way to (relatively) inexpensively satisfy your cravings for Ms McCartney’s big people’s clothes.

Little Mashers Chalk + Tees

A t-shirt you can draw on? What child isn’t going to love that? New from Little Mashers are these fab ‘Chalk + Tees’ (see what they did there?) emblazoned with blackboard designs on the front that can be wiped clean and drawn on over and over again.

There are four designs to choose from – clown or princess face, dinner plate or, my favourite, thought bubble – in red, charcoal or pink, £16.50 each. The fair-trade cotton t-shirts come packaged in a cool recycled cardboard box with a bag of four coloured chalks, so would make an amazing pressie. Adult sizes next, please.

Label Love: Scotch R’belle & Scotch Shrunk

Dutch label Scotch & Soda have been around since the 80s but they’re definitely re-emerging on my radar with their new mini peeps collections, Scotch R’belle for girls and Scotch Shrunk, mini versions from the mens collection. Mini adult clothing is normally synonymous with ‘inappropriate’, but there are no such concerns here – if anything you wonder if Scotch & Soda have been turning kids clothes into big people pieces.

While we still love popping brights and prints here at BG, the shift towards more understated brands in the childrenswear market hasn’t gone unnoticed and I love the relaxed, effortless, hip appeal of Scotch & Soda.

For spring/summer, think chic floral print raincoats, stripes, boho paisley, checks, cargo trousers, Liberty print accessories, well cut tee’s, and scrumptious knits with a slight distressed look. Spring/summer is launching in stores between now and May – check Scotch & Soda’s online store plus they have a stockist list which includes BG favourites Mash n Gravy and Sienna Loves Kai, who incidentally both give good sale if you want to snap up some winter bits.

Over to Germany this afternoon for trop-stylish online boutique Line + Liv. Little Red Stuga, Wovenplay, Fine Little Day, Mini A Ture and Lucky Boy Sunday – a wish list of our super-quirky favourites sit alongside new-to-me European collections from BOdeBO, Théluto, Les Zigouis, +++BB and Bieq and funky Brit brands Jessie & James and Robe of Feathers.

If you’re looking for design inspiration, check out the magazine section for French publications Papier Mache and Toc Toc Toc and German mag Klein Format. My top picks are this divine turquoise dress by Belgian label Cotton and Milk, €30, top, Lieschen Müller’s handmade fit-for-a-princess headband, €19, above, and these fresh spring green rubber wellies from Denmark’s Bisgaard, €34, below.

The navigation is a little annoying, but that’s my only criticism of what is otherwise a real treasure trove. As further incentive to browse, lots of items are currently on sale as well…

With baby number two due in June, I figured I should get reacquainted with all the coolest labels for littlies *rubs hands with glee*. LoveIt LoveIt LoveIt is one of my go-to sites for funky Scandi collections and, sure enough, there I discovered the fabulous Sture & Lisa from Sweden (where else?).

Fair-trade, organic cotton, vibrant colour combos and quirky animal prints, it ticks all the boxes. I’m particularly loving the apple bodysuit, £16, and cat romper, £19. Now, where did I put my credit card…

Hot New Clothing Range from Kitschy Coo

Fresh and fabulous this February, Kitschy Coo has just released a hot new line of clothing. Made from bright and funky Scandi fabrics (which you can also buy separately), the range has launched with pants, tops and the promise of dresses to follow.

With clouds, stars, elephants, hippos and happy mushrooms all against bright backgrounds with contrasting trims you are spoiled for choice. The trousers have ribbed fold-over waistbands which are comfortable to wear especially if your little one has a round tummy. The tops have generous necks and ribbing at the wrists which not only looks amazing but keeps sleeves out of trouble.

Betsy has a couple of pairs of the baby trousers which are hands down here favourite trousers to wear. Comfortable, roomy and snug; they are the perfect clothing for exploring.

Prices are from £17.50 and sizes are from newborn to 7 – 8 years (generous sizing).

Nat and I spent the day at Bubble London yesterday, seeking out the most swoonsome new goodies for autumn/winter and helping to judge the Stand Out stand design competition (well done, Pili Pala!). We’ll be reporting back on hot new labels, trends and finds over the coming weeks, but here are a few photographic highlights to whet your appetites.

I’ve long been a fan of Little Red Stuga‘s fabulous play blanket, Bu!, and now there’s even more reason to love it. LRS has collaborated with another one of our favourites, Fine Little Day, to produce this special edition, featuring an American Indian design, created by FLD’s Elisabeth Dunker. Great for imaginative play, as a comforter, or just a simple game of peekaboo, the blankie comes in six colourways and costs €29, plus €5 p&p to Europe. Definitely going on the list for Alfie’s birthday.

I have friends (a couple) called Polly & Joe, so I liked this online store before I’d even seen what they sold. And what it is is a small but perfectly formed collection of toys, clothes, art, nursery decor and changing bits from a few well-curated labels.

Think toys from Ferm Living, tops and bodysuits from Smafolk, nappy bags from Orla Kiely and art from Isak. My picks are these Sebra crochet elephants, £8.50 each, top, this cheery apple print apron from Engel, £12.50, above, and Made with Love by Mrs Booth’s wonderful W is for Whale print, £20, below.

Hot shop: I Dream Elephants

I still can’t quite believe that we haven’t featured the wonderful I Dream Elephants as a Hot Shop before. This is literally a dream online retail destination, featuring, as it does, so many of our favourite labels (think Bobo Choses, Ej Sikke Lej, Popupshop and Smafolk) alongside less familiar but equally fabulous names: Inge van der Broeck, K for Keeps, Paz, Selana… the list goes on.

Of the more quirky brands I’m loving this suitably swooshy Liberty Lollipop circle skirt from Littl by Lilit (German designer Lilit Borkowsky’s children’s line), £30, and these rocking guitar cushions by Gabriela Pardo (another German designer – go, Berlin!) which are currently on sale at £35 each, in three colours sure to inspire even the most reluctant performers. Another USP of the site is the ‘Outfit of the Week’ section where I Dream Elephants turn stylist and compile three full ensembles – one ‘little lady’, one ‘little lad’, one baby – in case you have no idea how to put your purchases together.
