Best and Worst Baby and Mummy Products Websites 2007

January 15th, 2008 ·4 Comments

It’s not just about what you sell but how you sell it, so these are the retailers who I spent money with last year and had the best (or worst experience).

Best Online Shopping Experiences 2007

John Lewis - I actually buy all of my baby basics from here as they wash really well, are great quality, and are reasonably priced. Overall they have a really great range of baby products with lots of well known brands, they communicate well with you, and deliver quickly. They have free standard delivery but over the Christmas, goods would turn up a day later! Considering that before I was pregnant I didn’t go near stores like John Lewis and now I’m an addict, it goes to show how a great shopping experience makes all the difference. As an aside, they’re brilliant when you go to their stores.

Lula Sapphire - I admit, I love this store. We brought all of the bambino’s Christmas presents from here. The stupid courier people turned up 3 days late with the package after saying it had been dispatched and the staff at Lula Sapphire were fantastic. They chased up the order, offered a refund, and made lots of fuss, which was great because it was the 22nd December and we were cacking ourselves that she wouldn’t have her gifts for her first Christmas. Aside from that, they have one of the best looking websites around, a great range of products that are difficult to get on the high street, plus they do a good sale.

Amazon - It wouldn’t be shopping online if I didn’t mention them. At one stage I was ordering something from Amazon every week. They’re very competitive on price and a great shopping experience. They have a surprisingly large range of baby and mummy products with big designer items like Fresco Bloom. They became an even bigger favourite when they started Amazon Prime. I paid £49 up front, and me plus up to 5 other family members get ‘free’ next day delivery. I’ve only had it 1.5 months and I’d say I’ve had more than half the value in deliveries.

Others: Boots, Mothercare, Totsplanet, Blooming Marvellous, JoJo Maman Bebe
Worst Online Shopping Experience EVER

This is beyond just being the worst experience for buying baby stuff. In over ten years of using the internet, buying something from Dillon Green is the worst experience I have ever had. I ordered a footprint kit from them which they delivered to a different address to what had been invoiced. When I got the signed for package from my neighbour (it had been signed for by a child….), it was broken. Despite numerous emails and telephone calls, to this day, I’m STILL waiting to be called or emailed back. I can accept that companies make mistakes but these people have atrocious service and a total lack of regard for their customer.

Funny that, I have bought numerous items from them and can’t fault the service or the products. Everything turned up when it should have, perfectly packaged and whenever I have had the need to contact them, they have always come back to me really quickly. Weired! Saying that, I have had one or two major problems with John Lewis on orders so it seems as though it must be the luck of the draw.

Sorry, I should have qualified who I meant! I’ve never had a problem with Dillon Green! Always find them to be great. It’s realy suprised me actually unless you are the ‘there’s always one’ that happens to all of us at some time or the other.

    Buyer beware.

These people are terrible. Our goods never arrived and they never replied to emails or phone calls. By ignoring every correspondence from us they have effectively stolen our money.
My advice is try the telephone hotline before you buy to discover how dreadful Dillon Green’s customer service is. If it is anything like our three week experience they won’t answer or reply.
If you must buy anything from this awful company, please pay on your credit card.

Oh Pia, I am definitely a buyer who is aware! I am all too familiar with your story and it would interest you to know that the comment from ‘Michelle Baker’ is actually from Michelle Green…. Personally, I would recommend to people not to buy from this company. Save your credit card for a company that cares and values your custom.
